Fairs and Special Events

Many events involving the sale or supply of food occur in the community each year.

These include community fundraisers, school fetes, sausage sizzles, festivals and concerts.

All organisations that sell or handle food for sale are defined as a food business and must notify their local Authority.

This includes food sold for fundraising or charitable events.

If you are hosting or are part of a special event, sufficient planning is crucial to ensure that your event runs smoothly and that the health of the public is not put at risk.

A special events booklet has been put together by the Authority which contains all you need to know.

This includes information on:

  • Hand washing facilities
  • Safe food storage
  • Cooking and heating facilities
  • Food packaging and labelling
  • Waste management and disposal
  • Sufficient water supply
  • Notification
